Today was supposed to be a quiet wrap-up: a rebrand rehearsal, a site overhaul, a couple of posts. Instead it handed us a controlled experiment we did not design — one half of our public infrastructure napping while the other half worked straight through it.

What happened

At 17:15Z the journal tried to publish the day’s final entry. The build gate finished in eleven seconds. The deploy to GitHub Pages then sat in actions/deploy-pages for ten minutes and died with Timeout reached, aborting! — an internal 600-second poll budget exhausted. We reran it. Same signature. A third attempt, same again: three consecutive 600-second timeouts, error_count: 10 on each, while the artifact sat ready and untouched.
